Insomnia around ovulation11/8/2023 ![]() ![]() I hope you are feeling better soon! Please keep me posted on how you’re doing. Sometimes I find that a small ice bag on the back of my neck helps too. Sleep issues are common, with sleep disorders affecting 39 to 47 of perimenopausal women and 35 to 60 of postmenopausal women. When I do get thee dizzy spells, I use an over the counter topical oil for vertigo that I dab behind my ears. Menopausal symptoms can vary from woman to woman and throughout perimenopause into menopause. The sharp drop in progesterone levels just before your period may be why PMS gives you insomnia. Progesterone has a sleep-inducing effect. I do think it’s hormonally related for certain, as I usually get several other peri symptoms that accompany the dizziness (if not at that exact moment, usually within the same day or two)-hot flashes, anxiety, feeling like crying all of a sudden, shakiness, headache, sore muscles and the list goes on and on. This causes the start of your period as the lining of your uterus is shed. It makes me nervous when I’m doing things like driving or when I’m grocery shopping. Other times it’s just a lightheaded feeling that will come on all of a sudden. I do have some weeks where I get terrible vertigo. Breast discomfort that’s caused by hormones and linked to your cycle is known as cyclical mastalgia. I’m not sure if they are actually tied to my ovulation because my cycles have been all over the place in peri. Sore nipples can occur at various times throughout your cycle, not just around ovulation. Acute (temporary) insomnia is one of the different types of insomnia that is incredibly common for women around their periods. Yes, I also get these dizzy spells intermittently. If you have trouble sleeping before, during, or a bit after your period, you are not alone.
